Two people have been killed in a crash involving a car and a digger in Manchester.
Emergency services were called to the A57 Hyde Road in Gorton at around 9.35pm on Wednesday evening following reports of the collision.
Police said the car collided with a stationary digger near the junction with Clumber Road, Manchester Evening News reports.
Four people were inside the car at the time of the crash. A man and a woman died at the scene while two men were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
No further details on the victims have been released at this stage.
The two men who were hospitalised were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
They are now in police custody, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.
Police cordoned off a stretch of Hyde Road from Balmoral Drive to Debdale Lane following the incident. It remained shut for hours overnight as accident investigation work was carried out on the scene.
Detective Sergeant Louise Warhurst, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic incident.
"We are appealing for any witnesses who may have saw the moments leading up to this incident, or anyone who has mobile phone, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage, to come forward and assist our investigation.
