Experts have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a young woman who was killed in a skydiving incident in Nottinghamshire.

The skydiving regulator has said it has opened an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old woman who was found in a field close to Langar Airfield, a former RAF base now home to Skydive Langar, at 12.13pm on Sunday.

Emergency services were called but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Now British Skydiving, the regulatory body which manages the day-to-day safety of the sport, said it was also setting up an investigation following the tragic incident, the Nottingham Post reports.

"A British Skydiving Board of Inquiry will investigate the accident and once completed a report will be submitted to the coroner, the police, the Civil Aviation Authority, the British Skydiving Safety & Training Committee and any other relevant authorities," a spokesperson said.

"The report will include the board's conclusions and will make any recommendations if appropriate."

The woman's family have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

Detective Inspector Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, previously said: This was a tragic incident, and we are working with partners to understand what happened.

As our investigations continue at the scene, our thoughts are with the womans family and everyone else who has been affected by this incident.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 306 of July 5, 2026.

The centre said its team were "devastated" by the loss of an experienced skydiver. In a statement, Skydive Langar said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that a fatal incident occurred at our centre today involving an experienced skydiver.

"The entire team at Skydive Langar is devastated by this tragic loss. Our immediate thoughts, deepest condolences, and full support are with the skydivers family, friends and everyone within our close knit community who has been affected at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are working in full cooperation with the police, and all relevant authorities to support this process.

"We kindly ask for respect and privacy for the family, our staff and the wider skydiving community as we navigate this profound loss."

Langar Airfield was opened in 1942 during the Second World War as a base for the RAF 207 Squadron. Skydive Langar, which opened on the site in 1977 and operates from the historic control tower, says it is the UKs busiest civilian skydiving centre.

Skydive Langar says it carries out more than 50,000 jumps each year from its fleet of three turbine-powered aircraft: two Cessna Grand Caravans and one standard Cessna Caravan.
