All the things UK still has to look forward to in summer to cheer us up after Euros loss

Cheer up - it's still a summer to celebrate, with entertainment gold on the cards from Olympics to music festivals, here are all the things we have to look forward to

As England lick their wounds after their Euros heartbreak, fans are already thinking about the World Cup in 18 months.

But there are plenty of sports events and spectacles still to savour this summer. Heres our guide:

Olympics

Team GB will be hungry for golds when the Olympics get going in Tokyo next Friday. After cleaning up in Rio in 2016 with 67 medals, hopes are high for more glory.

Ones to watch include swimmer Adam Peaty, boxer Pat McCormack and cyclings golden couple Jason and Laura Kenny.

Watch the opening ceremony at midday next Friday on BBC One.

The six-week tour has kicked off with victories against club sides already in the bag for Warren Gatlands men ahead of the first test on July 24. With more action tomorrow in Cape Town, fans are braced for a tough tournament against the world champions. Watch on Sky Sports or Now TV.

Tour de France

Were already in the final week with the riders nearing Paris, where the event wraps up on Sunday.

Its been an incredible return for Manx Missile Mark Cavendish, who equalled Eddy Merckxs record of 34 stage wins on Friday when he picked up his fourth victory at this years race.

Mark, 36, has two more chances to win stages this year.

The first comes in Libourne which starts at 12.20pm on July 16.

He also has a shot at the final individual time trial the next day.

Victories in both of those stages will take Mark to six for this year and almost certainly win him the sprint champions green jersey for the first time since 2011. Watch live on ITV4.

The Open

England hasnt had a Champion Golfer since Nick Faldo at Muirfield in 1992. When The 149th Open tees off at Royal St Georges in Sandwich, Kent, on Thursday, Tommy Fleetwood could well be next.

He came second to Irelands Shane Lowry at Royal Portrush in 2019. Revealing how lifting the Claret Jug has been a lifelong goal, Fleetwood said: Theres not another event that comes close.

Music Festivals

Family favourite Camp Bestival runs from July 29 to August 1. Along with lockdown hero Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada are set to perform.

Mr Tumble and Dick and Dom will keep the kids entertained.

The Isle of Wight Festival is from September 16 to 19. Big names from Tom Jones and Snow Patrol to David Guetta and Duran Duran are lined up.

Chelsea Flower Show

For the first time in its history, the show will be held in September, 21-26.

New attractions include a houseplant studio and categories for balcony and container gardens. See it on BBC2.

World Black Pudding Lobbing Championships

Around 1,000 competitors will hurl the blood sausages at Yorkshire puddings.

September 12 at The Oaks pub, Ramsbottom, Gtr Manchester, 11am-4pm. Its 1 for three black puddings.
