Man drives tractor back to DUI crash scene to tow away his own truck

The driver, allegedly under the influence while behind the wheel of both vehicles, returned to the crash scene on a tractor to tow his own truck out of a ditch he had crashed it into while driving drunk

Police said alongside footage shared on social media: "Sure enough, the [allegedly drunk] driver returned. On his tractor. To tow his truck out of the ditch."(Image: Nassau County Sheriff's Office/Instagram)

A man has been arrested for drink-driving after he turned up to a crash scene in a tractor to tow his own pickup truck out of a ditch - which was where he had crashed it after driving under the influence. Police in Florida's Nassau County were called to a crash involving a pickup truck in Callahan on June 24, with a witness telling deputies when they arrived that the person behind the wheel had already left the scene and had gone off to a nearby residence. Bodycam footage shows a white pickup truck, in a grassy ditch at an angle along the side of the road. "He's like, I'm going to hook a tractor to it and pull it out, and then I'm going to take the tractor home and come back and get the truck," someone can be heard responding in the bodyworn camera footage.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office said in a statement: Sure enough, the driver returned. On his tractor. To tow his truck out of the ditch." Body camera footage worn by police captured the man stumbling over the tractor after he arrived - or, re-arrived - at the scene. This led officers to conduct a sobriety test. The man, who was not identified, failed the sobriety test and was promptly arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Deputies from the Nassau County Sheriffs Office added that a 15-pack of cold beer was found in the man's pickup truck, as well as multiple already open containers. A statement from the Sheriff's Office said: "We probably shouldnt have to say this, but DUI laws apply to ALL motor vehiclesyes, including tractors. If youve been drinking, hand over the keys. All of them."
