Unidentified remains have been found in the search for a missing US soldier following Iranian attacks in Jordan, the US military announced on Sunday.
The ballistic missile and drone attacks took place on July 17, with two other service members already confirmed to have died. One soldier was declared missing but US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced this evening (July 19) that unidentified remains have been located.
A statement from CENTCOM reads: "Yesterday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the passing of two U.S. service members and the missing status of one in Jordan following an Iranian attack on July 17.
"After a thorough search, U.S. military personnel found unidentified remains at the location earlier today. An examination process to verify the remains is ongoing."
CENTCOM added that a US service member has also been killed in northern Iraq in action on July 18. This occurred during "a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone".
A second service member was wounded in the process and continues to receive medical treatment for a minor injury. CENTCOM said: "CENTCOM is withholding additional information, including the identities of the missing and fallen warriors, out of respect for the families during the notification process."
Yesterday, CENTCOM also announced that four other American service members were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. The two deaths announced this evening bring the total of US personnel killed since the start of the war with Iran to at least 18.
