At least one person has been killed and six others injured following a mass shooting in downtown Pensacola.

Cops in the Florida coastal city are urging people to avoid the area after gunfire left several people injured.

Pensacola Police Department said at least six people were hit by the gunfire with multiple people arrested at the scene. Authorities called the scene active and warned residents not to go downtown until conditions are stabilized.

An official confirmed: "We have at least one fatality". The shooting broke out in the early hours of Sunday, just before 1.30am near the intersection of Palafox and Intendencia streets, according to Wear News. The outlet reports cops have arrested "multiple people".

Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom will hold a news conference at Pensacola Police Headquarters at 8am local time (2pm BST) today (Sunday, July 5) about the incident.
