Authorities in Tenerife are preparing to receive more than 140 passengers and crew members on board the MV Hondius, which is currently headed for the Canary Islands.
The ship is expected to reach Tenerife by Sunday. Health officials say they will perform careful evacuations once the ship has arrived.
Virginia Barcones, Spain's head of emergency services, said: "They will arrive at a completely isolated, cordoned-off area."
The British government said it will send a plane to evacuate the nearly two dozen Brits still on the cruise ship.
