Vladimir Putin's 'night of horror' onslaught sparks urgent plea for NATO help from President Zelensky

Ukraine has appealed to NATO to speed up delivery of badly-needed Patriot defence systems after a night of horror led to Kyiv being brutally exposed to volleys of Russian missiles.

A massive onslaught starting on Sunday led to at least 14 killed in Kyiv and 48 wounded with dozens feared still trapped in destroyed buildings across the capital. It is the second time the capital has been targeted in a week and at least five children were among the injured.

During the attack it is believed the Kremlin ordered the use of a unusual amount of missiles as well as drones and Ukraine s air force was unable to shoot them down.

The strikes came on the eve of the Nato summit in Turkey, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to hold talks with President Trump.

Hours before the latest strikes, Zelensky had warned Moscow was preparing a second "massive strike" on Kyiv following its attacks on Thursday that killed 30 people.

It was one of the worst attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the war began and President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to NATO to hurry up delivery of defence missiles.

He said: It is crucial that the world above all the United States and our European partners leaves the NATO summit in Ankara with strong decisions to strengthen our air defense and protect the lives of ordinary people. As long as Patriot missiles remain in our allies warehouses, Russia will continue striking residential buildings.

One of the major problems for Kyiv is the delayed delivery of Patriot defence missiles which is leaving it vulnerable to Russian attacks. Zelensky added: The United States and Europe have enough strength to stop this terror.

Secondary explosions were reported on Monday, sending shock waves throughout the capital as delayed blasts went off at impact sites of the missiles.

More than 20 targets were hit by the Russian attack throughout Kyiv and it is feared more attacks may be planned by Moscows forces.

It is believed Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the major attack to avenge a series of devastating deep-strike Ukraine hits on Moscows oil and gas industry.

The energy industry across Russia is believed to be providing the main war chest to pay for Putins war on Ukraine but it is being crippled by Ukrainian attacks.

In recent months long-range Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia have performed devastating destruction of Putins oil and gas installations.

Emergency services were trying to rescue scores of trapped people feared to be stuck in the rubble of destroyed apartment blocks across Kyiv on Monday morning. K

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared a day of mourning for Tuesday after what he described as the most massive enemy attack on the capital.

Zelensky said on Sunday night: Kyiv was under a massive Russian strike tonight... Cleanup operations are still underway. Damage has been recorded at locations across the city, including residential buildings.
