Russia has hit Ukraine with guided aerial bombs overnight killing three civilians, including two girls aged five and ten. The strike on Sumy, north east Ukraine, happened as Kyiv unleashed more waves of drones in deep-strike missions inside Russia, pounding e-commerce enterprise Wildberries.
Eight guided aerial bombs were fired by Russia at Sumy which has been hit repeatedly in recent weeks as Ukraine struggles to defend against air-strikes.
in Ukraine's northern Sumy region six Russian glide bombs killed three people, including two girls aged 5 and 10 and an elderly woman, Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy regional military administration, said. Russian forces also struck Kharkiv and 18 towns and villages across the northern region over the previous 24 hours, killing one person and injuring seven others, including an eight-year-old child.
Ukraine responded with 300 drones attacking cities and industrial sites throughout Russia. Two major Wildberries logistics hubs near Moscow and St. Petersburg were hit in the latest Ukrainian drone attacks.
The latest attacks bring the amount of strikes suffered by online giant Wildberries has reached 20 as Kyiv extends its targeting of Russias supply network. Local governor Andrei Vorobyov said the Moscow region strike, in the town of Chekhov, set ablaze a warehouse in an industrial zone.
He also claimed the attack killed five people while injuring six others as the outlet, which Ukraine says is supplying Russias military. Wildberries warehouses throughout Russia have been frequent targets for Ukraines drone teams. It is believed the company plans to relocate to Kazakhstan within months to avoid the Ukrainian attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently warned Ukraines air defences are being overwhelmed - right at the point when his forces were beginning to turn the war against the Kremlin. He said: It is crucial that our partners understand that these systems are not needed sitting in warehouses for hypothetical scenarios, but here and now. Every anti-ballistic missile package saves the lives of our people. And every night that we lack them results in casualties."
Ukraine has appealed to the US repeatedly to supply more Patriot missiles which can shoot down and intercept ballistic missiles. US President Donald Trump has indicated the United States might award a licence to Ukraine to make its own Patriot missiles, which cost 3 million each. But US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said an agreement will not be reached before Winter.
He said: "A long-term production agreement will not be concluded before this winter. So we will continue working on it. We do not allow anybody but U.S. manufacturers to make those in the United States. There are co-production opportunities that we can do with the Ukrainians, that we can do with the Europeans, to increase the industrial base and support the defense of Ukraine and the defence of Europe.
