Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua offered world-title incentive ahead of mega-fight

The winner of Tyson Fury's clash with Anthony Joshua could be handed the chance to become a three-time heavyweight world champion

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could fight for the chance to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

The Brits are set to meet in New York in November, with Fury hinting at an imminent announcement. The pair have been on a collision course for a decade but failed to fight when either held a world title. There will be no belts on the line when they do finally clash, but the winner could earn himself a shot at recently-crowned WBC champion Agit Kabayel.

Kabayel was upgraded to champion when Oleksandr Usyk gave up his belt and will make the first defence of his title later this year. He could then take on Joshua or Fury in 2027. Speaking to Betway, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said when asked if Fury vs Joshua could be a final eliminator: That would be sensational. The WBC would absolutely approve that as a final eliminator, because Tyson Fury is the No.1 contender of the division, and the WBC absolutely would be proud to be part of that promotion.

"Both fighters are tremendous. Tyson Fury is one of the greatest ambassadors ever of the WBC. We are so proud. He is very friendly, very kind, inside and outside of the ring. Anthony Joshua, he was the first ranked by the WBC when he started boxing. He was number two contender of the WBC when he had the opportunity from the IBF [to fight Charles Martin].

"He had to go the other way and that he was the WBC International Champion for several years, but that's the way boxing is. Maybe this will be the time to bring Anthony Joshua to the WBC."

Earlier on Tuesday, Fury took to social media to hint that an official announcement is on the horizon, with the fight expected to take place in New York on November 20. "Morning guys," he said. "I'm just in the old gym doing a bit. [I'm going to] do about 45 minutes on the cross trainer, give me legs a rest from the running.

"Everything is going well. I got some big news going to be dropped very, very soon. All is good in the hood, big fight on the horizon, it's the one you've all been waiting for. [It's] about to be announced imminently, so stay tuned. Toodle pip!"
