Sir Alex Ferguson was forced to miss the LMA Awards this week following his Old Trafford health scare. The Manchester United icon was due to present an award named after him which crowns the best manager of the season within the English pyramid.

But having suffered from a small health scare earlier this month, he had to take a step back and was replaced by England boss Thomas Tuchel. The German presented the award to Coventry City boss Frank Lampard, after he masterminded the Sky Blues return to the Premier League.

Tuchel said: "It is of course not the same without Sir Alex himself and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery so that he is hopefully with us next year on stage again. Until then I have the privilege to read this letter to you, Frank.

He then started reading a small letter from Ferguson. He added: "Dear Frank, many congratulations on being named LMA manager of the year. You should be very proud of what you and your team have accomplished.

"Your personality as a manager and a leader is so clearly defined in how your team has played great football this season -- with confidence and self-belief and I have enjoyed watching you.

"I know from speaking with you that you have great humility and that important quality of a curious mind for learning. I'm sure winning this award will mean a great deal to you, Frank, and I wish you the best of luck in the Premier League next season."

Ferguson, 84, endured his health scare earlier this month shortly before he was meant to watch Uniteds clash with Liverpool. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance, albeit that move was precautionary.

Offering an update earlier this month, former United star Michael Owen said: "I spoke to him, I was on the phone to him for 40 minutes that morning. We're talking about football. We're talking about horses.

As I say, he's got horses here [at Manor House Stables]. Most Saturday mornings, he gives me a call, and we go through all the horses for the day, and we share what we know and things like that."

"I speak to him regularly, and he sounded absolutely brilliant, sharp as a tack as normal," he added. "We were talking a lot about Scottish football and what was happening up there. So it was such a shock to hear, obviously, that the next day he was taken unwell, but hopefully it's not too serious."
