Prankster led away after trying to line up with England ahead of Republic of Ireland clash

The build-up to England's match with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Saturday was marred by the presence of an internet prankster who tried to line up with Lee Carsley's team prior to kick-off

Security were forced to intervene when a prankster tried to line up with the England team prior to their match with the Republic of Ireland.

The Three Lions' opening UEFA Nations League match took place at The Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday evening with a new face in the visiting dugout as interim head coach Lee Carsley took charge for the first time.

And there was an unfamiliar face in tow with the England team before kick-off, too, after a prankster donning a full England kit made his way onto the pitch.

Security quickly intervened to apprehend the pitch invader, who was led away shortly before the national anthems took place. A second pitch invader was latter apprehended by security in the second half of the match. The culprit's exploits caused a small delay to proceedings, with England leading 2-0 at the time.

YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis, known online as 'Jarvo69', later took credit for the incident on social media. In a post on X, he shared images of himself being led away and quipped: "I am now Englands fattest ever football player!!!"

Jarvis interrupted Sky Sports' coverage of transfer deadline day last month when he hijacked a live shot of reporter Kaveh Solhekal with a sex toy.

He was seen sneaking into shot while Solhekal spoke outside Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium before placing a dildo in and around the Sky Sports presenter. The broadcaster cut their live coverage and returned to the studio shortly after Jarvis came into shot.

The drama preceded a frantic start to proceedings in Dublin, where Declan Rice smashed England into an early lead - much to the anger of the home support.

Rice, who represented the Republic of Ireland at both youth and senior level before switching his allegiance to England, had been subjected to fierce jeers from the home support and responded to his goal by raising his hands apologetically rather than celebrating wildly.

There had been a debate in the build-up to the match, too, regarding Carsley after England's interim chief said he would not sing the national anthem beforehand.

Carsley, who represented the Republic of Ireland during his playing career, said of his decision: "This is something that I always struggled with when I was playing for Ireland. The gap between your warm up, you coming on to the pitch and the delay with the anthems. So its something that I have never done.

"I was always really focused on the game and my first actions of the game. I really found that in that period I was wary about my mind wandering off. I was really focused on the football and I have taken that into coaching.

"We had the national anthem with the Under 21s also and I am in a zone at that point. I am thinking about how the opposition are gonna set up and our first actions within the game. I fully respect both anthems and understand how much they mean to both countries. Its something I am really respectful of."
