Liverpool transfer news: Bradley Barcola battle heats up as club set out demands for exit

Liverpool have entered a critical stage of the summer transfer window and the club look set to act accordingly. The weekend saw the Reds strengthen their backline after a series of injuries left Virgil van Dijk their only fit senior centre-half.

Ronaldo Araujo, the Barcelona club captain, is joining on a season-long loan to ease Andoni Iraola's defensive headache. Attention now turns back to the Reds attack.

In a week that saw former winger Mohamed Salah join Turkish side Trabzonspor, the need for reinforcements is amplifying. Today's news sees Liverpool hit with a worrying development over their chase for PSG forward Bradley Barcola, while a current Reds striker is the subject of interest from a Premier League rival.

Arsenal move for Barcola

Arsenal are ready to make a move for Barcola this summer, according to The Independent. Liverpool reportedly made the French star their primary target this summer but could now face a fierce fight for his signature.

The Premier League champions had pivoted towards a sensational move for Real Madrids Vinicius Jr, as they look to bolster their own attack, but he has signed a new deal with the Spanish giants.

TEAMtalk claim Arsenal have been in contact with Barcola's camp as fears of a hijack increase. PSG's position on Barcola's price tag, however, could be a troubling obstacle for both sides. The winger is said to be valued at around 145million although some outlets have said the price is set closer to 128m.

Arsenal are believed to have a long-standing interest in Barcola as they look to shore up their left wing. But as it stands, Liverpool have the upper hand, having advanced in discussions with both PSG and the player's representatives.

Barcola is also believed to be keen to join the Reds. However, with no agreement on a fee struck yet, time could be running out, with Arsenal ready to sanction a major-money move for Liverpool's long-term target.

Spurs learn Gakpo stance

Liverpool are refusing to budge on a move for Cody Gakpo, unless they sign two forwards, according to talkSPORT. An update on Spurs' chase of the Dutch attacker claimed the north London side are serious about securing the Premier League title-winner.

Spurs have reportedly been told that 70m could get a deal for Gakpo over the line. According to the report, Liverpool's current stance on the player they signed in January 2023 is to retain him, unless they can bring in new recruits in that area of the pitch.

Any movement on a potential deal would only come late in the window, and with the deadline on September 1, time may not be in Spurs' favour. The outlet even claimed that sources have referred to Spurs pursuit of Gakpo as a fools errand, given Liverpool's current reluctance to sanction an Anfield exit.
