Liverpool star Mo Salah fires back after Wayne Rooney 'legs have gone' criticism

Liverpool star Mo Salah insists that he isn't finished yet after Wayne Rooney claimed that his 'legs had gone'. Salah, 33, will leave Liverpool next month on the back of what's set to be his least prolific season for the Reds.

The Egypt captain was Liverpool's top goalscorer as they romped to the title last season, but only has seven Premier League goals to his name this term. Salah has a year left on his contract at Anfield but has decided to seek pastures new in the summer transfer window after reaching a mutual agreement.

Discussing Salah's decline on The Wayne Rooney Show, the Manchester United legend said: "I've said this since the start of the season, age gets to us all and your legs go. I think that's happened to Salah this season and Virgil van Dijk hasn't been the same this season."

But in an interview with fellow Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard for TNT Sports, Salah - who's currently out with a hamstring injury and won't face United on Sunday - talked up his physique. "I feel good, body wise I feel all right," the forward stated.

"I didn't become old overnight. Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give and I will see what is the best for me.

"To go through the season, I feel like this is the right thing to do now and I have peace with it. The season was tough for all of us. I don't want to say much."

Salah also gave an update on his recovery from injury and admitted that he doesn't know where he'll be playing his football next season, having been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia and clubs in Europe. "Honestly, physically I feel I have a lot to give," he added.

"I played many games this season. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of good options. Physically, I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off, I feel good.

"I will see what is best for me. For sure, the injury is fine. I will hopefully be back (before Brentford on the final day)."

Liverpool play three more times after facing United. Arne Slot's side will host Chelsea before traveling to Aston Villa ahead of welcoming Brentford on the day.
