Liverpool news: Arne Slot urged to make swap deal happen as Virgil van Dijk addresses rumours

The latest Liverpool news sees Arne Slot being told to complete a swap deal this summer at any cost

Liverpool have the opportunity to wind down their stuttering season on a high note in their last four games of the season. The Reds' status as reigning Premier League champions will end in less than a month with likely either Arsenal or Manchester City succeeding them as title holders.

After rising to fourth in the table following their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend, a win against Manchester United on Sunday with a two-goal margin will see them leapfrog their bitter rivals into third.

While a top-three finish certainly won't erase the disappointment of what could have been in Arne Slot's second season, it could provide a positive leap into next season. Mirror Football takes a look into a swap deal the Dutchman has been urged to trigger as well as Virgil van Dijk opening up on transfer rumours surrounding his side.

Among the issues that have plagued Liverpool's progress this season, the lack of firepower from their forward line could very well be at the top. While the club could spend again on their attack this summer, former Reds midfielder Jermaine Pennant has urged Arne Slot to sign Michael Olise to replace Mohamed Salah, who will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Bayern Munich star has enjoyed a stellar second season in Germany with 20 goals and 29 assists in 47 appearances. Despite his contract at Bayern not expiring until 2029, Pennant insisted acquiring the France international must happen "at all costs" for Liverpool.

After watching the 24-year-old net a sumptuous strike in Bayern's 5-4 Champions League semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, Pennant took to X to write: "Liverpool go out and get Olise right now, at all costs. There is your replacement for Mo Salah. AT ALL COSTS. Any amount plus Gakpo."

Cody Gakpo has come under fire for his disappointing performances by Liverpool fans, having scored just eight goals and contributed six assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Van Dijk addresses rumours

With Salah and Andy Robertson on their way out of Liverpool, the future of Curtis Jones remains up for debate. The midfielder is approaching the last year of his contract with no updates as yet on a possible new deal.

The 25-year-old was linked with a shock move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window but stayed put and has since impressed at right-back in recent weeks. With just 14 league starts to his name this season, there has been rumblings that the England ace has grown frustrated with his role under Slot.

When Van Dijk was asked whether he wants to see the academy graduate stay at Anfield, the captain answered: "Of course. I dont know whats going to happen because Im not the boss.

"Curtis I thought was outstanding against Everton, was not too much spoken about but especially in possession he was quite a big game-changer, especially in his positioning. Its nice to be in your original position but he is so comfortable on the ball, he understands what is asked from that position."
