Paul Pogba's wife responds to retirement demand as Monaco contract set to be ripped up

Paul Pogba's Monaco contract is set to be terminated as injuries continue to strike but his wife has hit back at suggestions the ex-Manchester United man should retire

Paul Pogba's time at Monaco looks set to come to a premature end

Paul Pogba's wife has fired back at claims the Frenchman should retire with injuries striking again as his Monaco contract is poised to be ripped up.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder has been plagued by injuries during pre-season and multiple reports in France claim his agents are in talks with the Ligue 1 club over a mutual termination.

That comes at Monaco's request with his move to the principality not working out as he or the club would've desired. Pogba had been attempting to get his career back on track after spending time away due to a doping ban.

He had been earning just 44,000-a-week at the Ligue 1 side, and some fans have claimed Pogba's body can no longer hold up and he should hang up his boots - which his wife has taken issue with.

Zulay, 33, who married Pogba in 2017, fired back by reminding his doubters of his achievements: "For all the people saying Paul should retire or he came back to football for the money, let me make this clear, the only one who knows when he will retire is God. And for the ones who say he came back for the money, trust me we are very good with money, thank God.

"Social media accepts everything. People can sit behind a screen and say whatever they want, insult someone, question their intentions and forget that there is an actual human being on the other side.

"For those questioning what he has left to prove, let me remind you he achieved the dream every footballer in the world grows up chasing, dreaming to have. He won the World Cup for his country."

Paul Pogba's wife, Zulay, has launched a defence of her husband

Pogba's spell away from football means he's fallen out of the France picture and he's never been able to regularly showcase the form that 10 years ago prompted United to make him the world's most expensive footballer at the time. The Frenchman thrived during his first spell at Juventus and was poised to become one of the best players on the planet.

However his return to Manchester didn't work out and he was regularly criticised for a lack of positional awareness, despite moments of brilliance. He returned to Juventus on a free but his doping ban scuppered his hopes of getting back to his best. Last season he played just six times for Monaco.
