Victor Osimhen breaks silence on Arsenal transfer rumours after 58m talks

Victor Osimhen is dominating transfer headlines yet again, with Arsenal being identified as a possible destination for the Galatasaray forward

Arsenal transfer target Victor Osimhen offered a 'wait and see' style response to speculation linking him to the Emirates Stadium. As is the case during nearly every transfer window, the Nigerian is being linked to the Premier League again.

Having regularly been mentioned in the same breath as Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are now the two clubs believed to be interested. His name was brought up when the Gunners were in transfer talks with Galatasaray, who were looking to secure a move for Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli.

While Martinelli rejected a move to Istanbul, Osimhen appeared to keep his options open when the rumours linking him to Arsenal were put to him. While stopping short of ruling out a departure from Galatasaray, he was equally keen to stress his mind is firmly fixed on pre-season preparations, with Arsenal said to be considering a move for the 58m-rated forward.

He said: "There are always rumours in transfer seasons. I will take care of my business. I am focused on my job, then we will see and think further."

Back in 2023, Osimhen made no secret of his ambition to one day play in the Premier League, at a time when he was in stunning form for Napoli as they stormed to the Serie A title.

"I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me," he said after being named 'Best Foreign Athlete of the Year' by the Italian Foreign Press Association in 2023.

"A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

"I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."

Currently, Arsenal have Viktor Gyokeres spearheading the attack, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus also on hand as centre-forward alternatives. Defensive midfielder Mikel Merino has also demonstrated a talent for finding the net when utilised as a striker by Arteta previously.

Arsenal have also been connected with a potential swoop for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, though the Spanish giants are said to be holding out for upwards of 100m for the Argentinian. The Gunners have encountered considerable disappointment regarding their striking targets this summer.

They have already seen attempts to secure Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior fall through this summer, with them choosing to sign for Chelsea and stay at Real Madrid respectively.
