There are no Premier League games today, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all not in action

There are no Premier League games on Saturday

Why are there no Premier League games on Saturday?

  1. The context: Unusually, there are no Premier League matches scheduled for Saturday this weekend. Instead, they are scattered across the matchweek.
  2. Why? The FA Cup final: The 2026 FA Cup Final is scheduled for Saturday, 16th May, which traditionally clears the Premier League calendar for that day. This allows the match to take centre stage.
  3. Who's in the FA Cup final: The FA Cup final is between two Premier League teams. Chelsea take on Manchester City for the season's second piece of major silverware.
  4. The Friday night curtain-raiser: The Premier League weekend actually began yesterday on Friday, 15th May, with a major clash between Aston Villa and Liverpool. It was the penultimate match of the season for both of the teams, as will be the case for the remaining sides in action across the weekend.
  5. A packed Sunday schedule. Following the cup final, a total of six Premier League matches will take place on Sunday, 17th May. The Sunday offering begins with Manchester United against Nottingham Forest at 12:30pm.
  6. Sunday afternoon fixtures: There are four fixtures kicking off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon, making it akin to a traditional Saturday afternoon slot. These are Brentford vs Crystal Palace, Leeds vs Brighton, Wolves vs Fulham and Everton vs Sunderland.
  7. Sunday evening: Sunday's offering concludes with a huge match at the bottom of the Premier League as West Ham face Newcastle. The Hammers know that if they fail to win they could be relegated if Tottenham beat Chelsea later in the week.
  8. Monday and Tuesday night: The matchweek continues into the following week with Arsenal hosting Burnley on Monday, 18th May, at 8pm. This is followed by two midweek games on Tuesday, 19th May, featuring Bournemouth vs Man City (7:30pm) and a London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham at 8:15pm.
  9. Season climax alignment. By moving Saturday's fixtures, the league ensures that the penultimate week of the season (Matchweek 37) leads smoothly into the final day. All teams will then play their final matches of the 202526 season simultaneously on Sunday, 24th May.
