Max Verstappen's dad Jos has spoken out about Saturday's crash which he walked away from unscathed. The incident occurred during the opening special stage of the Rallye de Wallonie.
The Dutchman was taking part in the Belgian Rally Championship event alongside co-driver Jesper Vermeulen when he crashed on a right-hand corner that proved far more hazardous than expected. The pair's car slid off the road before colliding with a nearby tree.
It is believed the vehicle had already sustained damage from an earlier incident during the fourth stage of the event. Jos has now broken his silence on the matter, speaking to the Belgian Rally Championship's Instagram channel.
He said: "It was a right-hand bend that I had to take in fourth gear. It was dusty, there was gravel on the surface. I think I went into the corner a bit too fast, and at the end of the corner, the car broke away.

"Then we hit a post. The post whipped the car around, and then we landed on the roof."
The 52-year-old has been a regular fixture in rallying for a number of years since hanging up his Formula 1 helmet. The scale of Saturday's accident was plain to see from the extensive damage inflicted on their Skoda, which brought an immediate end to their rally.
He added: "The most important thing is that Jasper and I came out of the car safely. It was a big impact. But we sit in such safe cars, that shows again. I'm glad we came out of it well."
A prestigious event renowned for its technical demands, the Rallye de Wallonie takes place on tarmac roads.
The course is fast-paced and brutally challenging, featuring tight, twisting roads alongside some breathtakingly rapid stretches.
Jos had also been competing without his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul for this year's event, who was sidelined following surgery to address an ankle injury.
