Billy Loughnane has continued his incredible rise by securing a special title awarded to the years most prolific Flat jockey. The 19-year-old has enjoyed his most prolific year in the saddle to date with 207 wins which have helped him land the 2025 Annual Flat Jockey Champion title based on winners during the calendar year.

Loughnane burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old at the end of 2022 and in January 2023 rode an impressive 23 winners, 12 weeks after taking out his licence. He was crowned champion apprentice at the end of 2023, following in the footsteps of Ryan Moore, Frankie Dettori, Oisin Murphy, William Buick and Tom Marquand.

In December this year he reached 200 wins for the first time at Lingfield, the only jockey to do so in 2025, and established an unassailable lead in the contest.

Loughnane is one of the fastest jockeys in history to hit 500 British wins in just three seasons. Murphy, Dettori and Marquand who all took six seasons and Moore, Jamie Spencer and Kieren Fallon who reached it in seven, eight and nine seasons, respectively.

Loughnane said: Reaching 200 winners in Britain in 2025 and 500 winners overall is something Im incredibly proud of. Ive been lucky to ride plenty of good horses, but none of this happens without the trainers who put their trust in you.

"I owe a huge amount to so many trainers, in particular George Boughey, who has supported me from early on, and Charlie Appleby and the entire Godolphin team for the opportunities and belief theyve shown. Im also hugely grateful to all the owners who have put me up on their horses and trusted me on big days.

Im still learning all the time, and I feel like Im improving with every season. The next big aim is to keep pushing on and give myself a proper chance of challenging for the Jockeys Championship in 2026.
