Michael van Gerwen chases after man who assaulted him in late night footage

Michael van Gerwen returned home for a national Dutch holiday, but the three-time World Darts Champion's night out on the town took a serious and worrying turn

Video footage circulating online appears to show Michael van Gerwen being attacked outside a bar in the Netherlands. Van Gerwen was out with friends in his home country celebrating King's Day - a national public holiday with a similarly festive atmosphere to St. Patrick's Day.

A clip posted online by Dutch media showed him engaged in a heated exchange with a man outside a bar in Den Bosch. As onlookers gathered around, Van Gerwen could be seen speaking directly into the man's ear, with the individual firing back his own remarks at the three-time world champion.

Further into the footage, the man threw a right hand at Mighty Mike, who appeared visibly shaken by the blow.

Unsurprisingly, Van Gerwen was incensed and reacted by going after the man as bystanders attempted to intervene. Before he could reach the individual who struck him, a group of men wearing orange jackets, believed to be security staff, grabbed hold of the man and removed him from the area.

Van Gerwen does not appear to have sustained any serious injuries, with the incident said to have taken place on Sunday night.

"We are aware of footage circulating of an incident involving Michael van Gerwen," the PDC said. "He did not provoke the situation and was not at fault.

"As this is a private matter, we will not be commenting further."

Van Gerwen's management, MODUS, released a similar statement.

Last year, Van Gerwen found himself caught up in a comparable incident during another night out. In September 2025, the Dutchman was filmed involved in a physical altercation inside a kebab shop in Den Bosch.

Van Gerwen briefly shed light on what occurred during that particular incident shortly after it unfolded. Speaking to Darts News, he said: "After an enjoyable night out, we wanted to grab something to eat, and unfortunately I ended up in a situation you'd rather avoid.

"The man came at me from the kitchen, not the other way round, following a verbal exchange. People are making it sound more dramatic than it actually was, which is a shame.

"As you can see, people stepped in straight away and the situation was resolved. I even spoke with the man's nephew afterwards, and we cleared the air before we left."

Van Gerwen is set to feature in Premier League action in Aberdeen on Thursday evening when he faces Luke Humphries.

The Dutchman is currently on track to secure his place at finals night, though he holds just a four-point advantage over fifth-placed Gian van Veen.
