Premier League Darts: Luke Littler rubbishes Luke Humphries claim as rival doubles down

Luke Littler has shot down Luke Humphries claim that he is better than the legendary Phil Taylor. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stunning couple of years since his breakout at the 2024 World Championships.

Since then, he has claimed two world titles, the World Matchplay, the World Grand Prix and the Premier League, as well as a whole host of other trophies. During that time, Littler has regularly taken on Humphries, with the two British stars the two best players in the world.

And Cool Hand has recently claimed that Littler is already the best player ever - even better than the legendary Phil Taylor. Speaking after he lost to the Nuke in last week's Masters final said: You look back on the whole game. It's hard to pick holes in it. It's only the three at double top [he missed].

That's the pressure he puts you under. He has shown that through class. He never folds under pressure. I think he's the greatest darts player who has ever lived.

Littler has now responded to that claim and suggested that there will never be a rival for Taylor. He said: Im trying to tick majors off at the moment. I am only a couple away, including the World Cup, and then I have the set.

Comparing myself to [Phil] Taylor, though no one will be as good as him. Unless I win 16 Matchplays and World Championships!

There is a long way to go but also theres the question of whether I want to be playing darts in 30 or 40 years time.

Darts is changing; there are more youngsters coming through and the world of darts is better now. If I can do enough now to settle down in the future, then hopefully I wont need to be playing as long as that.

Humphries has since clarified his comments and while he stopped short of suggesting Littler could topple Taylor when it came to his career glory, he did suggest he still thought the teenager was more talented.

"I said it in the moment but I'll still stand by it in a way that maybe the wrong word was used I still mean what I said but using the word the greatest maybe what I meant to say is the most talented darts player ever and I stand by that I think he is, Humphries said.

"Phil Taylor has achieved so much so maybe it's a bit harsh to not call him the greatest, but I definitely still stand by the fact Littler is the most talented ever."
