Darts prospect Gian van Veen has revealed he was "quite intimidated" by Gerwyn Price when they first began to clash in the PDC. The reigning European champion first encountered Price at the oche in 2022 and lost his first seven matchups with the Welshman.
Their record has evened out over the years, with Van Veen having now won two of the last four encounters between the pair. But his comments serve to illustrate the importance of stage presence in the sport.
Van Veen, who withdrew from Night 7 due to kidney stones, first broke his cycle of defeats to Price during a European Tour event in September 2025, where he waltzed to a 6-0 win. The pair will reunite on Thursday when they face off in the opening round of Night 8 in this year's Premier League, which takes place in Berlin.
"Ill do that again tomorrow then. 6-0," he told Tungsten Tales, referring back to his first win over Price. "Especially the first couple of times, he beat me every time.

"And if I remember correctly, yeah, I reached above 105 every time as well. He played phenomenally in all those games."
He continued: "Especially the first couple of games I played him. I was quite intimidated by him on stage, but the way he was doing as well."
It was exactly one month ago that 'The Giant' edged 'The Iceman' 6-5 in a Premier League semi-final thriller in Belfast. Van Veen lost the first two legs but showed great resolve to come from behind and make the final, where he eventually lost to Stephen Bunting.
Van Veen has featured in three Premier League stage finals so far this year, while Price made just his second when he lost to Luke Littler in Dublin earlier this month. However, the Welsh veteran at least has a night victory under his belt already after triumphing in Antwerp.
Van Veen sits outside the Premier League table's top four as things stand but is only three points behind Price in third. And there would be no better way to prove those days of intimidation are behind him than to book another win this week.
Virgin Media is paying new customers up to 250 as a bill credit when they switch to one of its TV and broadband packages, several which are packed with hundreds of channels including Sky Sports, Netflix and fibre broadband.
It's also worth noting only league leader Jonny Clayton has made the same number of finals as Van Veen. However, the latter will be desperate to end his hunt for a night victory in the near future.
The Giant advanced all the way to the final of the latest PDC World Darts Championship back in January. However, he was soundly bested 7-1 by Littler.
