Jordan Spieth says he trusts the correct choice will be reached regarding whether players competing for LIV Golf will be permitted back onto the PGA Tour. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler offered a blunt verdict when asked for his opinion.

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) announced on Wednesday that it would stop its backing for LIV Golf at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Consequently, there is mounting speculation surrounding LIV's future and what the PIF announcement could signify for the league's players.

The PGA Tour permitted LIV players to rejoin the Tour earlier this year via the Returning Member Programme.

This saw Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed make their way back to the PGA Tour, though with financial penalties, with Reed currently serving a suspension that will expire in August.

There is now doubt surrounding LIV's prospects, with an ESPN report recently suggesting that multiple players had their representatives contact the PGA Tour to enquire about the possibility of a return.

With the Cadillac Championship underway this week at Doral, Florida, Spieth - who sits second following a seven-under-par opening round on Thursday - has shared his thoughts on the prospect of LIV players returning to the PGA Tour.

"I think there's just too many unknowns for me to have a good gauge on what would happen," Spieth said, via ESPN.

He added: "If there's a system for Brooks and a system for Patrick Reed, does that stay the same for guys in the same category as those two coming back or does it change now?

Does it change for guys who sued and dropped their membership?"

"There's just a lot of different things that happened over the last four years for that," Spieth continued. "I'm kind of glad I'm not in that room, and I trust the guys that are in that room to make the right decision."

Scheffler is also taking part in the Cadillac Championship, where he carded a one-under-par opening round and currently sits tied-27th ahead of Friday's round.

The 29-year-old was similarly quizzed about the prospects of LIV players making a return to the PGA Tour, but offered a straight-to-the-point response.

I just got off the golf course, Scheffler said. I don't know what you want from me, the four-time major champion added with a laugh.
