PlayStation has confirmed it will delete hundreds of films bought by users from their accounts in months. In a message to users marked as "legal notice" it has said licensing rules mean the movies will be removed from people's accounts which means they will no longer be able to watch them.

PlayStation users are able to stream, rent or buy movies if they have the most up-to-date versions of the device - the PS4 and PS5. In the past this was directly via the PlayStation store but now it is through the Sony Pictures Core app. According to the message sent to affected users it will remove 551 movies from September 1.

The pulled content includes classics like Terminator 2, Total Recall and Shaun The Sheep Movie - Farmageddon. Alan Partridge, The Evil Dead, Brighton Rock, The Deer Hunter and Paddington will also be no longer available to people even if they have bought them.

The message from PlayStation reads: "From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library."
