Alison Hammond has opened up about a comment her mum made, which sparked her weight loss journey.
The This Morning presenter, 51, has been open about her health journey in recent years, after losing 11 stone.
Shes also previously addressed rumours that she used weight loss jabs, shutting down those claims, and spoken about her health after a pre-diabetes diagnosis.
Alison has now opened up about a comment from her mum, who had Type 2 diabetes before her devastating death from lung and liver cancer in January 2020.
Speaking on Tuesdays (July 28) This Morning alongside her co-host Dermot OLeary, Alison shared: Ill never forget when my mum when she was really ill in hospital, Ill never forget the day when she looked at me, and shes never commented on my weight in my whole life.
And she said, Alison, dont end up like me, try and sort out your weight.
I was 30 stone that day and the fact that it came from my mum, who was like my core values and everything like, thats the day I changed.
The conversation had been focused around how to tell loved ones that theyre overweight, with Janet Street-Porter and Nick Ferrari as guests on This Morning.
Alison continued: So if its done in love, and you can see someone genuinely loves you and wants the best for you, and wants you to start loving yourself, honestly it meant so much to me.
Alison has spoken in recent interviews about her weight loss journey, and speculation she used weight loss jabs.
Listen. People are going to assume anything, she previously told The Telegraph.
They werent happy with me being big; they werent happy with me being small.
I was one point away from being diabetic, and my mom was diabetic, so Id seen what a struggle it was. I literally needed to be able to walk up the stairs.
She added: I just try not to comment on womens bodies. When my mom lost a lot of weight while she was really ill with cancer, people were like, Oo youre looking great!. And I was like, Shut up! Shes literally dying! That really upset me.
Alison went on to say that since losing weight, her mental health has been better, she feels more nimble and even younger.
She added: But my career took off when I was a big girl, and my career is still great now that Im smaller, so I think Im accepted for who I am.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX
