Laura Kuenssberg viewers "switched off" minutes into the BBC politics programme.

During the latest edition of the morning show (June 28), 57-year-old Victoria Derbyshire stepped in for the regular host as she questioned a string of politicians following a turbulent week at No. 10. Taking to the studio this week were Deputy Labour leader Lucy Powell, Housing Secretary Steve Reed and Tory MP Sir James Cleverley.

Accompanying Victoria on the panel were broadcaster Piers Morgan, USDAW General Secretary Joanne Thomas, and former chair of John Lewis, Sharon White.

Her slot on the weekend programme follows news that the production teams behind Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and Newsnight will combine as part of the extensive, multi-million-pound cost-saving and reorganisation initiative unveiled by the BBC this year, reports the Express.

The broadcaster is rolling out a substantial strategy to cut 500million, which includes axing 2,000 positions throughout the organisation over the coming three years. Amongst the confirmed alterations, BBC Breakfast will cease broadcasting on Sunday mornings from September, with additional reductions impacting BBC Radio 4, including the axing of their evening programme, The World Tonight.

It didn't take long for viewers to turn to X - formerly known as Twitter - to voice their frustration at the presenter reshuffle online. One user wrote: "Piers Morgan and Lucy Powell on the Laura Kuenssberg show this morning, so that's an OFF for me!"

Another concurred: "Spare us the football, Piers Morgan and Victoria Derbyshire. This is not a serious programme. I know it's not your regular gig, but this is dire. And Newsnight and LK on Sunday will soon share the same production team. If it involves John McAndrew, it will be a disaster."

A third vented of Victoria that "every question in the last 30 minutes has been an attack piece".

Meanwhile, others welcomed the broadcaster's contribution to the programme, with some proposing she should become a regular host. One user wrote: "Keep Victoria in this job, she's far better than Laura Kuenssberg," as another concurred: "Hurray Victoria Derbyshire on Laura Kuenssberg, it's actually worth watching this week!!"

However, it wasn't solely Victoria Derbyshire who attracted criticism for her role on the morning programme. Viewers were likewise taking issue with the Uncensored host repeatedly talking over his fellow panellists during the broadcast.

One user vented: "Piers Morgan being his usual very alpha male self and interrupting all the women on the show."

Another viewer questioned: "Is this the Piers Morgan Show? Really poor chairing from Victoria Derbyshire, allowing the inflated ego of Morgan to waffle on." A third simply stated: "Piers Morgan = I stop watching."
