Beyond Paradise, the UK spin-off of Death In Paradise, is back. A joint post by the show and BBC Studios announced that filming has begun on the fifth series of the crime drama.

The show shared a picture of a clapperboard with the silhouette of Kris Marshall's Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman in front of a rural church, showing that they were about to shoot the first take of the first scene of the new run.

They said: "Anyone spotted a sleuth by the sea? The Shipton Abbott squad are back on the beat! Filming has begun this week on the latest series of Beyond Paradise.

"Sunny shores, secrets to solve and scones to scoff - everything you could possibly want on another adventure to Devon and Cornwall. Beyond Paradise will be back on BBC iPlayer and BBC One soon!"

Fans were delighted with one writing: "Oh thank goodness! Love this show so much." Another said: "The only downside of this brilliant show... not enough episodes per series." A third said: "SOOO HAPPY as Theeee BEST Cast Ever and LOVE the storylines AND just everything about it. Countdown is ON!!!!"

The show, like its Aussie counterpart Return To Paradise, is a spin-off from the popular Death In Paradise, set on the fictional island of Saint Marie in the Caribbean.

However, unlike the other two it's set at home in the UK in Shipton Abbott, a made-up town on the Devon coast and instead of non-stop murder focuses on impossible burglaries, stolen vintage cars and entire families going missing.

It follows Goodman's life having joined the town's local police force after returning from Saint Marie and has been running since 2003. Sally Bretton plays his wife, Martha Lloyd. The new series is expected to air on the BBC in 2027.

Filming takes place in South East Cornwall and parts of Devon with the coastal town of Looe - which is actually in Cornwall - standing in for Shipton Abbott.

The town's Guildhall doubles as the show's police station while the Cornish town of Launceston often portrays Shipton Abbott's town centre.

Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams, officially announced in May that Beyond Paradise would be returning after Kris Marshall accidentally shared the news early.

She said: I have been given permission to say that we have got a fifth series. I have been given - in a very Head Girl way, as Im called on set, a Head Girl - permission to say that.

It has been said by a certain Kris Marshall but he was not allowed, and he was very undisciplined and blurted it out but you are getting the true exclusive. We have a fifth series, we are very excited.
