Bonnie Tyler's friend in Portugal has given a worrying update after the star had to be "resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest".
Doctors tried to bring her out of an induced coma at an Algarve hospital after she fell poorly after life-saving surgery for a burst appendix. It has been reported that was when she suffered the cardiac arrest.
Liberto Mealha, who is a long-term friend of Bonnie's, told Good Morning Britain that they hope she will make some improvement today. The friend - whose daughter counts Bonnie as her godmother - said: "I could not see her because she's in intensive care but we are praying for better news. The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far it's not that good."
It had been previously revealed by Bonnie's team that she was put in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
A spokesperson for the singer said in a statement : "Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to."
Earlier this week, a spokesman for the singer explained that Bonnie was "recuperating well" and a quick recovery appeared to be on the cards - before her health sadly deteriorated again.
The statement said: "We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The surgery went well and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery."
Bonnie splits her time between her home in South Wales and her home in Faro after falling in love with the country. She has been open about her health over the years and recently revealed her knees were her main health issue.
"I'm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you've got your health, you've got everything. I do home Pilates, only 20 minutes a day - it's something I can do in my hotel rooms," she said of her fitness regime.
"I have had problems with my knees; I didn't have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time."
