A news presenter has been blasted after being caught rolling her eyes during a segment confirming Bonnie Tyler's death. The iconic singer died aged 75 on Thursday and presenter Dani Sinha was tasked with relaying the news on Channel 5.
But the reporter, who has been working on the channel for 11 years, suffered several blunders through her report, leading her to roll her eyes. The moment wasn't well received by viewers at home who quickly shared their fume online.
Among the presenter's mistakes during the broadcast was misnaming Bonnie's hit song Total Eclipse Of The Heart, as she called it Total Of Eclipse.
Following a clip of Bonnie performing the hit 1983 tune, the segment returned to the studio and Dani was seen cutting a frustrated figure and rolling her eyes. It was clear the presenter was unaware the camera had returned to her.
Following the clip being shared online, users were quick to question what was happening during what should have been a delicate and empathetic report.
While some said she had been "let down" by technology, others blasted her actions. One user wrote: "She's reacting to shambolic tech support." It was a comment that many agreed with.
Another said: "It was the fact they gave the wrong song title and then played the line from her song 'now Im falling apart' to fade out to, that was the eye roll." A third said: "She's reacting to the wrong song being put on the autocue!"
However another wrote: "Unprofessional. You dont do that in front of a live camera which could cut back you at any time especially when announcing a death." One other viewer branded it a "Total Eclipse of Respect".
Husky-voiced singer Bonnie, who shot to fame with hits like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out For A Hero, died in Portugal weeks after she was placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery.
A message confirming her death was shared on the Welsh star's website. It read: "Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for."
It comes after a spokesperson said last month that she was out of the coma but remained "very unwell and in intensive care".
Bonnie is survived by her husband Robert Sullivan, an Olympian, whom she married in 1973. The couple had no children together.
She had previously told the Mirror : "I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I'd still be doing it at this age. I've slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire.
"Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I'd had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road!"
The Prime Ministers official spokesman said after news of her death: The Prime Minister is indeed saddened to hear about the death of Bonnie Tyler, one of Britains greatest recording artists.
An iconic figure, she leaves behind a catalogue of music from Total Eclipse Of The Heart, to Holding Out For A Hero which continues to touch lives, flood dance floors, and fill karaoke booths. He added: The Prime Ministers thoughts are very much with her friends and family.
