A synopsis teases: "In a unique historical crime series, Vicky McClure and her historian husband, Jonny Owen, travel the UK exploring historic, culturally significant crimes that have changed the face of modern Britain.

"The married couple investigate unsolved murders, miscarriages of justice and milestone cases that have changed the law.

"Speaking to experts, historians, police officers and victims families, they examine the lasting impact each murder has left on the community and why these cases still resonate today.

"Joining Vicky and Jonny across their journey through these crimes are a range of contributors, including Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, historians Dr Fern Riddell, Huw Williams, Phil Carradice, criminologist Professor David Wilson and more, as well as families of both victims and suspects."

Tonight's instalment, set to air at 9pm, will take viewers back to 1828 in Edinburgh to explore the infamous case of two serial killers Burke and Hare.

Vicky and Jonny can be seen travelling around Edinburgh learning the horrific details and events that lead to the capturing of two criminals and how the infamous case is still recognised today.

At the start of the instalment, it was teased: "Nearly 200 years on... Their legacy still haunts the city. But what's the real story?"

The camera then pans to Vicky who says her and her husband "share a passion for finding out the truth." Jonny adds: "Together, we're going on a journey back in time to explore murder cases that have changed modern Britain."

Viewers will hear harrowing details of how corpses were supplied to medical schools for dissection which led to the "phenomenon of grave-robbing and the infamous murders of serial killers Burke and Hare".

Britain's Murder Map with Vicky McClure and Jonny Owen starts Tuesday 7 April 9pm on Sky HISTORY and HISTORY Play.
