A detective series featuring a retired police officer is replacing The Crow Girl in the schedule.

The Eve Myles drama, which also stars Dougray Scott, Katherine Kelly, Victoria Hamilton, Lee Boardman, Chlo Sweetlove, and Elliot Edusah, has been airing on Channel 5 for the last two weeks but will be replaced with Benidorm is Murder when it comes to an end.

The new murder mystery, which has been described as a "cosy crime" thriller comes from Ian Jarvis, the writer behind Death in Paradise.

The series will see John Hannah play burned-out ex-police officer, Dennis Govan, who is hiding behind a failing Scottish pub in Benidorm when his life is changed by aspiring actress Rosa, played by Carolina Bcquer.

Speaking about what attracted him to the role, John Hannah, known for A Touch of Cloth, said: "I thought the characters had great depth and warmth. Ian Jarvis script was terrific.

"Its a very difficult line to walk; to create real people you believe in and all the drama but also find the humour without it being slapstick or broad comic strokes.

"For most actors you read a script and it either connects with you in some way or it doesnt. This really did. I was totally up for it."

He added of his character: "I mean he is broken. Hes sitting on the side-lines in this bar, not sure what hes doing, not really trying to make anything happen because hes tried that, and it all failed. Hes found a bush and hes crawled into it.

"Hes miserable. But given the breaks hes had staying out of the sunshine drinking beer seems like a decent way to go. And then like life, when you least expect it, something happens and Rosa walks through the door. Shes the catalyst for everything that happens, and she is fantastic."

Benidorm is Murder is replacing The Crow Girl season one, which initially launched on Paramount+ in January 2025, and on Channel 5 earlier this month.

The acclaimed detective series, which is adapted from Erik Axl Sund's bestselling Scandinavian novel, follows DCI Jeanette Kilburn and DI Lou Stanley as they pursue a killer following the discovery of unidentified young men's bodies across Bristol, beaten and containing the anaesthetic lidocaine.

The series will wrap up on Wednesday, July 29, making way for Benidorm is Murder on Thursday, July 30.
