EastEnders star Belinda Owusu is about to return to the BBC soap and has teased that her return comes with tense scenes as secret meetings with a serial killer's grandmother.

Belinda was last seen on the show during a cameo in the New Year's Day flashforward, where her character Libby Fox made an appearance alongside her surrogate grandfather Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker). Now, it has been revealed that she will come back again amid her mother Denise's (Diane Parish) blood cancer diagnosis and her nephew Jordan's (Jahsaiah Williams) accident.

As she makes her return, Belinda answered some big questions about what Libby's return means for Denise, Jordan and the rest of the Fox family.

Viewers first caught a glimpse of you in the 2027 flashforward at the start of the year. What was it like stepping back into Libbys shoes after almost a decade away?

A lot has changed, yet it still felt familiar. I only filmed one scene with Rudolph for the flashforward, so it was an initial flying visit, but a nice way to ease back in ahead of what was to come with this storyline. It was great to reunite with so many familiar faces. Although the sets are different, it immediately felt like home, with a real sense of nostalgia. Diane and Tameka [Empson, who plays Kim Fox] have always felt like family, and it was my first time working with Zaraah [Abrahams] as Chelsea, but we clicked straight away. It sounds cheesy, but it really did feel like coming home. That speaks to the shows energy, things change, but the warmth remains.

What was it about this storyline that drew you back?

Its such a big moment for the family, and Libby would want to be there. When the Foxes first arrived, they were a tight-knit trio of strong women with each others backs. Its been lovely to revisit that dynamic within a bigger, evolved family. It also marks Dianes 20th anniversary, and I happened to be there on the day, which felt very serendipitous. We reflected on how full circle it all felt, Im now the same age she was when she joined, and like her then, I have two children. It was special to celebrate that with her. Theres something meaningful about a show giving you that sense of family over so many years.

We immediately see the Fox sisters at loggerheads. Why is that?

Libby and Chelsea still fall into those sibling dynamics; they bicker like kids. Here, theyre both terrified about their mum, so emotions are running high. Libby feels guilty she hasnt been around to notice something was wrong, which makes her defensive, while Chelsea is likely dealing with her own guilt. They process things differently, and that tension comes out in conflict.

As the sisters discuss planning for Jordan, Chelsea reveals Grays nan has been sending cheques for years. How does Libby react?

Libby is surprised, but she immediately senses Chelsea wants nothing to do with it. Still, it sparks her interest. With Chelsea overwhelmed by Jordans care and the financial strain, Libby sees it as potential support. Shes torn - she respects Chelseas boundaries but also believes it could offer some relief.

What drives Libby to reach out to Sheila?

Libby wasnt there to experience everything with Gray firsthand, and that shapes her perspective, she may act differently if she had been. She sees how much pressure Chelsea is under, supporting both Jordan and Denise, and feels the added financial strain is too much. Libby is pragmatic, if slightly naive to the risks. In her mind, if this could help Jordan and ease Chelseas burden, its worth exploring.

Chelsea eventually agrees to meet Sheila. Is Libby surprised?

Its typical of them to disagree - Libby explains her view but doesnt push. Thats why shes surprised when Chelsea comes around. They both start to see the potential benefits for Jordan, despite the risks, and Libby supports Chelsea by following her lead.

What does Libby make of Sheila when they meet her?

Libby comes away feeling positive. Sheila denounces Gray and his actions; shes also suffered from the fallout of what hes done. She says all the right things. They believe her when she says she has no contact with him, that she only wants to help Jordan.

What would Denise and the family make of this?

Article continues below

Its a difficult balance, wanting the best for Jordan while recognising the risks. They keep it from the family because Chelsea is still wary, and they want to assess it without those additional voices and opinions. With Denise starting treatment, they also dont want to add more worry, especially when they feel they may have things under control. But of course, nothing stays secret for long on Albert Square
