EastEnders have already revealed the fate of Ian Beale after he hit Jordan Fox with his car. The soap's week of special episodes, called 'The Night That Changes Everything', got off to a dramatic start for the new councillor but the future of the character has been confirmed.
Warning, this article contains spoilers from todays episode now available to watch on BBC ipPayer, and it will air tonight on BBCOne at 8pm. If you don't want to know what happens look away now.
In Monday's episode, Ian was trying to get his drunk mother, Kathy, home from Vicki Fowler's wedding. He accidentally reversed over Jordan, but didn't realise and thought he hit a bin. Jordan was left lying on the floor, unconscious, but still breathing.
In tonight's episode, Jordan was revealed to have a fractured spine and doctors told his mother, Chelsea, that they were worried about his head. Things get worse for Ian, as he was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving whilst under the influence. It wasn't until his interrogation that he even knew it was Jordan who he had hit. After learning that he hurt Jordan, he asked for a solicitor.
The councillor had one drink at the wedding, but it still put him over the limit. When he took a breathalizer test, his alcohol level was 41 micrograms, while the acceptable limit is 35. Jack Branning, Jordan's step-grandfather, was furious with Ian and berated him going home instead of helping Jordan. He called Ian a "drunk driver who left him for dead".
Ian was left in a jail cell, waiting to see if charges would be brought and if he would go to prison. But his future freedom has already been revealed, as Ian appeared in the New Year's Day flashforward, which takes place on 1 January 2027. He is Max Branning's best man. As such, he will be free and not in prison.
This is not the first time Ian has left a child for dead. In 2020, he discovered that 13-year-old Dennis 'Denny' Rickman Jr had started a cruel online campaign on bullying that resulted in Ian's son, Bobby, being attacked and hospitalised.
Upon realising the teen wasn't even a little sorry for what happened, Ian locked Denny in the toilet of a boat, where a boat party was happening to celebrate the Queen Vic winning pub of the year.
Whilst Denny was locked in the toilet, Phil Mitchell and Keanu Taylor got into an argument over Sharon having an affair with Keanu. Phil accidentally knocked the captain of the boat out and threw Keanu into the wheel, which caused the boat to crash.
The boat began to sink as the party guests rushed off the boat. While Ian raced to safety, he left Denny in the bathroom to die, as he forgot he was in the bathroom.
When he realised the child was still on the boat, he tried to get to Denny and successfully broke the boat door down, but he was unable to get out of the boat as the two were swarmed by water. While Ian survived the ordeal, Denny drowned.
