Soap icon's 'unmissable' return to screens will deliver old-school drama for fans

Emmerdale icon Sadie King's comeback to the ITV soap after 20 years away will give us some of that classic drama and plenty of twists and turns that we haven't seen for a while

Emmerdale: Will the wedding of Dawn and Joe end in tragedy?

One soap is lining up a major return very soon, as an iconic character makes their way back after two decades away. Emmerdale favourite Sadie King is making her comeback for the first time in 20 years. But how long is she back for and why is she even returning?

There's so much fans can expect to see when Patsy Kensit's character heads to the village. The Mirror are lucky enough to have seen her return scenes, and it's not one to miss. "Those first scenes are just classic Sadie, and classic soap," our soap source revealed. "It's nothing short of iconic, and fans are going to love it."

We've been sworn to secrecy about how Sadie returns, when and what happens. More will be revealed very soon though, so keep an eye out for that.

Fans can expect huge things and plenty of twists and turns when Sadie does rock up in the village though. "It's an unmissable plot, and it will feel very old-school soap, in a good way, and it's somewhat nostalgic," says our soap source.

"There's around six months of action and chaos. Expect showdowns, expect the past to be revisited, and expect some epic moments as Sadie comes face-to-face with her former neighbours.

"There's something for everyone, and this is one character that had to come back. It doesn't feel pointless or a gimmick, it feels rightly timed and just what fans and the show needs.

"She has a reason for returning, and she's got a secret to share. But it might lead to more than one thing being revealed, as stuff has gone on in her 20-year absence, and the show will explore all of that."

Actress Patsy spoke to the Mirror about her comeback very recently, telling us what we can expect. She said: "We will find out what's happened to her and it's interesting.

"It's not just a one-note portrayal. Things have happened to her over the last 20 years, and we get older, but I can't say too much. Obviously it's been 20 years. We would hope shes evolved slightly."

Soap boss Laura Shaw also discussed the decision to bring Sadie back, praising Sadie for her return. She shared: "There's that kind of classic, glamorous, soap b***h.

"You don't get many people like that in soap anymore. So it's been great to have that back. But she doesn't feel old school. She feels current, here and now. And it's been brilliant."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
