Now that the heatwave has come to an end and cosy nights are on the horizon, you might be on the hunt for something new to watch. And if you're a fan of fast-paced crime thrillers, there's one new release you'll want to know about that fans are calling "the new Killing Eve".

Created by New Girl showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Furious is an eight-part series that viewers are describing as 'enormously entertaining' and 'genuinely gripping'. It focuses on a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between an investigator and a killer, putting an interesting twist on your typical crime drama by focusing on female rage and trauma.

Led by Shameless star Emmy Rossum and Trespasses actor Lola Petticrew, the psychological drama pits two deeply complex and damaged women against one another.

Very similar to the electric dynamic shared by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in Killing Eve, Furious thrives on the intense and obsessive connection between hunter and hunted.

Emmy takes on the role of FBI agent Alice Black, who is attempting to track down Catherine (Lola Petticrew) as she kills multiple different men who she believes has wronged women.

However, the two soon find themselves in a 'complicated psychological relationship' that has deadly consequences.

Loosely inspired by the iconic 80s film Black Widow, this eight-part series delves into the psychological aftermath of abuse, rather than just focusing on the violence.

Each of the female leads is a very complex character, but according to Emmy, as she spoke to Entertainment Weekly, they're more alike than you'd initially think.

She said: "I think it's interesting to have a crime thriller where the two female superpowers in the dual lead roles are actually more similar than they are different."

"And of course, Alice and Catherine will start to realise this over the course of the story. They're both victims of violence who are looking for justice both for themselves and also on a much larger scale in unconventional ways.

"And because they are constantly underestimated, they are both able to -and have to - work outside the lanes of convention."

NME as equally full of praise, writing that the show "flips the overworked serial killer genre on its head to explore a story carved out in the post-Epstein era".

Meanwhile, critics at The People's Movies singled out Emmy Rossum's "quietly compelling performance," calling the series "intense, violent and emotionally heavy, yet dangerously bingeable".

You can stream Furious on Disney+, where new episodes are dropping every Monday.
