ITV This Morning turns tense as Dermot O'Leary issues stern warning to co-star

Dermot O'Leary was quick to tell off his co-star during the latest episode of This Morning as things became frosty on air

Dermot tells Gyles 'don't do this' during intense chat about Burnham

Things became rather tense on the latest episode of This Morning as Dermot O'Leary issued a stern warning to Gyles Brandreth.

Presenters Dermot and Alison Hammond were back at the helm for Friday's (July 24) edition of the popular ITV show. Later, the pair were joined by Gyles and Ashley James for the segment Morning View, as they discussed the latest news headlines.

But the atmosphere appeared to shift when Dermot and Gyles discussed politics. Sharing their thoughts on Britain's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, Gyles couldn't help but compare Andy to Britain's former Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer.

Insinuating that Andy has already lifted the nation's morale, despite only being appointed to the position on Monday, Gyles claimed he was impressed with Andy's approach. But as Gyles spoke of Andy favourably, Dermot interjected.

Gyles said: "I'm giving good marks to Andy Burnham for his first week. I think atmosphere, tone do make a difference.

"It's the centenary of Winnie-the-Pooh, we all know an Eeyore. We were all a bit gloomy and maybe Keir Starmer was a bit gloomy."

Dermot stopped Gyles in his tracks and said: "Don't be doing this. You're better than that, you are!

"No, because we talked about this in private. You know that Starmer, to be fair to him, was a big picture politician."

Gyles interjected: "I'm saying something important; I'm not being trivial here. I'm saying that tone of voice and atmosphere makes a difference."

Seeing things turn fairly tense on the show, viewers headed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts. One viewer said: "Go on Dermot, you tell him!"

Another social media user said: "Love Dermot calling out Gyles." While a third added: "Literally no-one around the table listening to Dermot's point about Starmer and long-term planning strategies for the long-term good."

On Monday, Prime Minister Andy stepped into his new position. Andy will be the United Kingdoms seventh prime minister in a decade.

Standing outside of 10 Downing Street in London, Andy set out some of his plans going forward. He said: "Later this year, I will bring forward a new plan for Britain, a 10-year plan, laying out a path from where we are now to where I believe we all want Britain to be, wherever were coming from, whatever party we support.

"But I can do something to give people some breathing space now, some help with the cost of living. And I will set out some of those measures starting tomorrow, including how we pay for them.

"We will help more young people into work by changing the education system and giving them more support, more mental health support. And we will build more council homes."

In addition to this, Andy also plans to put an end to homelessness in the United Kingdom.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
