What do we know about Kate Hudson as she takes on her first major TV role in Running Point?

Running Point official Netflix trailer starring Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson has gone from being one of the most recognisable names in fan-favourite rom-coms to taking on her first leading role in a TV series for Netflixs Running Point.

In the brand new sports sitcom, releasing this Thursday (27th February), the Bride Wars star takes on the role of Isla Gordon, one of the only female owners of an NBA basketball team.

She takes up the demanding role of leading the Los Angeles Waves when her brother leaves the job after a scandal and does her best to prove her naysayers wrong and lead the team to the championship.

As the big screen star takes on what could be another iconic part in the new streaming comedy, lets take a look at her life away from the cameras so far.

Hollywood Star Parents

The 45-year-old star has had Hollywood in her blood from the beginning, having been born in Los Angeles, California to movie star Goldie Hawn and musician and comedian Bill Hudson.

However, Hawn and Hudson divorced when their daughter was just 18 months old and she was subsequently raised in Colorado and California by her mother and long-time partner, actor Kurt Russell.

Shes quoted in Vanity Fair saying her biological father "doesn't know me from a hole in the wall and considers Kurt her dad.

Hudson told Detour magazine: Kurt is a saviour who came into my life. He's been there for everything.

The actress has four half-siblings; Emily and Zachary Hudson from Hawns previous marriage, Lalania Hudson from her fathers other relationship, and actor Wyatt Russell, Hawn and Russells son.

Hudson dated Muse frontman Matt Bellamy from 2010-2014

Famous Exes

Hudson has had a number of high-profile relationships over the years, beginning with her first and only marriage to Chris Robinson, the Black Crowes lead singer.

They married in 2000 and their son was born in 2004, but they divorced in 2007 after Robinson filed for legal separation citing irreconcilable differences.

However, before the marriage, Hudson reportedly dated Matt LeBlanc, best known for portraying Joey Tribbiani on the hit sitcom Friends, for at least a year from 1995.

Her other relationships include a romance with Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy from 2010, getting engaged in April 2011. Their son was born three months later, but they broke up in 2014.

She has also had an on-again, off-again relationship with Owen Wilson from 2006-2009 after meeting on the set of You, Me and Dupree.

Other brief dalliances have included Dax Shepard, Lance Armstrong and Nick Jonas.

She's been engaged to Danny Fujikawa since 2021

Current Relationship

Hudson began dating musician and record company owner Danny Fujikawa in December 2016 and theyve been engaged since 2021.

The pair welcomed their first child together in October 2018.

She said of their relationship in PEOPLE in 2020: "He makes me feel beautiful every single moment of the day, even when we have fought. I still feel loved. His devotion to the family unit makes me feel safe and confident and secure."

And just this year, Hudson admitted to Bustle: Im the biggest flirt on the planet. So I think anybody whos ever been with me is very aware that I flirt with everybody - girls, boys.

Thank God Danny is my partner. He can handle this. I met the right guy.

The actress has sworn by meditation for the past decade

Healthy Lifestyle

Hudson is frequently considered an icon for both fashion and healthy living, but she doesnt rely on fad diets or strict workout plans to maintain her movie star glow.

Instead, she has cited healthy eating, physical activity and mindfulness, as well as adjusting her schedule to her mood, as the best way to keep fit.

She is also a long-time advocate for meditation as the best way to reduce stress, and tries to practice it for at least 20 minutes twice a day.

Meditation has been the most helpful and life-changing thing for me, she told the LA Times in 2016.

You can feel the difference when you meditate on a regular basis. At least I can.... I started practicing [transcendental meditation] a year and a half ago so I meditate 20 minutes in the morning and I try to do another 20 minutes in the afternoon.

This is the first time Ive made it a point to meditate every day.
