Nicola Walker BBC drama spin-off series gets 'sexy' update after filming paused

The Split spin-off series The Split Up is set to follow another family's law firm, and further updates have been given.

A spin-off from the cherished BBC programme The Split has received a significant update.

Viewers were heartbroken when the Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan-led legal drama concluded with a third series in 2022 and a two-part special last year.

Nevertheless, additional information about the forthcoming series The Split Up has been disclosed.

Annika actress Nicola portrayed Hannah, grappling with her marriage to Nathan (Stephen) falling apart and managing affairs, romance, and volatile relationships whilst also handling her family-operated legal practice and the chaos that her two sisters and mother created.

The Split-Up is now poised to chronicle another family's law practice, this time situated in Manchester, with an emphasis on the British-Asian elite, the Kishans, reports the Express.

The six-episode series will showcase "the high-stakes world of Manchester's divorce law circuit, where one family of lawyers, the Kishans, reigns supreme," the release previously hinted.

It adds: "Kishan Law is a British-Asian high net worth family law firm in Manchester, noted for its clientele and its reputation.

"They are the 'go to firm' for Manchester's elite who come to them for their excellence, integrity, and discretion.

"But the future and legacy of Kishan Law hangs in the balance when a family secret from the past comes to light, throwing their professional and personal lives into turmoil."

It had previously been reported that filming had temporarily been paused, but there's now been an update on the show.

Writer Kaamil Shah, who is crafting one of the episodes in the series, revealed details about The Split Up during a chat with Radio Times, explaining: "It's with a new family of British Asian divorce lawyers in Manchester. Very exciting to be working on that with an excellent showrunner, Ursula Rani Sarma. That's really exciting. It's doing something very different with British Asians on screen."

He continued: "I think it's really sexy. I'm really proud to be working on a show that's genuinely got heart-stopping moments of British Asians being messy, having relationship dramas, affairs and all of these fun things. So I'm really excited to be working on that."

He mentioned that cameras should begin rolling shortly, with "a brilliant cast coming together".

It had been previously disclosed that The Split Up's storyline and characters, developed by Ursula Rani Sarma, draw inspiration from The Split, with Abi Morgan acting as executive producer.

She earlier revealed to Metro it would be "a fitting evolution" of The Split, stating: "I suppose the best thing I can say is that the new show will be in a new city with a new group of writers running it.

"But it is also really exciting to have Ursula Rani Sarma at the helm, and it's been really enjoyable to see her voice and the voice of the writers grow, and I'm just excited to see what comes next.

"So I think it will be a very fitting evolution of The Split."
