Could this girl band who once reached the quarter finals of The Voice be the UKs Eurovision Song Contest entry this year? Fans on the hunt to discover who will represent us in May have unearthed several clues to suggest that country pop trio Remember Monday have landed the plum gig. after being selected by the BBCs team of experts.
The girls got their first airplay on national radio from Scott Mills, who has just taken over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. In November Scott - a huge Eurovision fan who is always involved in the BBCs presenting line-up - played their song Famous and said he really liked them, comparing their harmonising to 90s Californian duo Wilson Phillips. They used to make music after sixth form every Monday which is where they got their name from, he explained.
One sleuth writing on a fan website claimed the BBC had chosen a girl band and also that the song they will perform has been penned by an experienced team familiar with the contest, with one of the creators even having a past Eurovision victory. Another superfan said that the songwriting team involved Emmelie de Forest, a Danish singer-songwriter who represented her country at Eurovision in 2013.
But the biggest clues came from the band themselves, made up of school pals Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steel, who call themselves pop girlies with a little bit of yeehaw. They recently posted on X: We have been super quiet because we have been busy working on something he he he. 2025 we are very, very ready for ya!
It comes after the singers posted a TikTok version of themselves performing Sam Ryders almost-winning entry Space Man a year ago, tagging him with the message: Hey get us on Eurovision! Remember Monday have half a million followers on TikTok, with fans loving their harmonies and strong vocal range. The trio reached the quarter-final of The Voice UK in 2019, auditioning with a cover of Seals Kiss From a Rose, which got all four judges - including Jennifer Hudson, who became their coach - to turn their chairs.
The BBC has announced that Sam Ryders former management is helping to source the UK Eurovision entry this year, led by David May, who worked closely with the BBC team in 2022 as Ryders manager when he was runner-up in Turin. Speaking in October, David said: We want to collaborate with an authentic act who has a genuine, heartfelt story to tell, and an unmatched vocal tonality and range.
One possibility is that the track could be from Remember Monday's Crazy Anyway EP, which was released in October with most of the songs - including the title track - sitting at the right length of three minutes.
Remember Monday also won best group at the British Country Music Awards in 2019 and their debut single Drive went to No.1 in the iTunes Country Music Chart. Like Ryder, whose TikTok covers became hugely popular in lockdown, the bands version of Queens Fat Bottomed Girls went viral, with Brian May sharing it on his own Instagram.
The friends, from Farnborough in Hampshire, met at college in 2013 and have performed at the Country 2 Country Music Festival and supported Billy Joel at BST Hyde Park. Having also pursued individual projects in musical theatre, they made the decision to quit their day jobs and become full time band members in 2023. A BBC spokesman said: "We do not comment on speculation. Any announcements regarding Eurovision will be made in due course."
If Remember Monday do represent the UK, it comes one year after Ollie Alexander finished in 18th place with his song Dizzy, which drew 46 points from the international juries but none from the voting public. His performance came a year after Mae Muller finished second last, in 25th place, with her pop tune I Wrote a Song.
Th UKs best performance for many years came with Ryders Space Man in 2022, which saw him finish one place behind Ukraines Kalush Orchestra. Because of the war in their home country, the hosting duties fell to the UK in 2023, with the contest held in Liverpool. This year it is being held in Basel, Switzerland following Nemos victory last year with song The Code, with the final taking place on 17 May.
