A Love Island couple has revealed that an ITV host halted production to quiz them about their personal lives.

Season 2 winners Nathan Massey and Cara de le Hoyde are one of the dating show's success stories. Viewers watched the duo meet and fall in love in 2016, during the early years of the now-international franchise.

Back then, late presenter Caroline Flack was at the helm and she correctly predicted that Cara and Nathan were "a match made in heaven".

It turns out Caroline was so stunned by how quickly they clicked that she suspected they knew each other before the show.

"We'd never met but people thought we knew each other," Cara revealed on the NearlyWeds Podcast hosted by fellow ex-Islanders Tom Clare and Molly Smith.

Nathan chimed in: "The first time we came in, the connection was just unreal. I've never had it before. It was like being at centre court at Wimbledon, you know? It was just back and forth."

He went on to reveal that the host stopped filming to check if the couple had ties outside of the villa.

"Caroline Flack, God rest her soul, she stopped production," Nathan explained. "She was like 'Do you guys know each other?' and we were like 'No!'"

The reality star shared that Caroline then asked what he looks for in a partner, to which he replied "I love an a**." Caroline followed that up by playfully gesturing towards Cara's figure, saying "look at that".

Nathan added: "It was just instant. And I've never had that in my life - instant connection." A decade on from their first meeting, the couple is now married with two kids; daughter Delilah and son Freddie.

They admit that they may have never met outside of the Love Island villa, despite growing up as county neighbours in Kent and Essex. Cara even worked in nightclubs that Nathan frequented but they never crossed paths.

Beloved host Caroline tragically took her own life in 2020. The series has since welcomed new presenter Maya Jama, who is currently fronting the brand new Season 13.

The latest season of Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
