'My sister's baby name is horrid and so bad I worry she'd get bullied'

A woman has been left 'horrified' by the unique baby name her pregnant sister has chosen for her unborn daughter - saying it could negatively impact her daughter for life

A woman has been slammed for choosing a 'horrific' name for her baby girl - with concerns it could cause her daughter problems later in her life. She explained her sister is expecting her first child - a baby girl - in mere weeks. Yet rather than rejoicing in the upcoming arrival, she confessed she's been left appalled by name she has picked out for her newborn.

Taking to Reddit, she shared how the little one will be named Zacqualynne-Mahtyldah, and explained the mum-to-be aimed to commemorate two deceased relatives through her daughter's name. "Zac" serves as a nod to her partner's brother, while "qualynne" draws from her late sister, Jacqueline, who died only months earlier.

The latter portion of the name, Mahtyldah, represents her own unconventional take on the traditional name Matilda.

The woman noted her sister reckons the departed family members would have adored being honoured in such an intimate manner.

Yet she couldn't feel more differently.

"I think they'd hate being part of such a revolting name," she posted.

She proceeded to request candid feedback from social media users, stating she wished to demonstrate to her sister "what kind of life this kid will have".

Numerous commenters concurred the spelling would probably create difficulties for the child throughout her lifetime.

One user said: "Imagine being 5 and learning to write your name."

Another user added: "For the love of all that is holy, just no. That's not honouring anybody; it's condemning her poor daughter to a lifetime of her name being misspelled, mispronounced, and people wondering what was wrong with her parents. That said, I'm so sorry for your loss."

A third user said: "I hate it. Also, why make the spellings so weird on top of it all?"

Another user added: "I suggest Matilda Lynne, and if there is another male child he could have Zachary for a middle name. Matilda Jaqueline.

"The people who passed away will get no pleasure in you naming the child after them. It's for your memory. It's nice, but do it right for your child."

One more user said: "This is horrible. How does somebody come up with this monstrosity and say, hey that's a good name for my baby.

"You can honour family members that have passed in a different way other than giving made up 'names' to your poor child. The baby literally will have to live with this, just don't."
