Nicola Walker stars as DI Annika Strandhed, a slightly unconventional single parent whos come over from Norway to head up the Scotland Marine Homicide Unit, although none of her colleagues seems happy with her appointment. Shes sharp, has a very dry sense of humour that others dont seem to find funny and uses literary and historical references to help her solve crimes.

But what makes this series so unusual is that throughout, Annika breaks the fourth wall, sharing her observations on the case and her messy life. Although Annika isnt your typical brusque-but-brilliant Scandi-noir detective, shes a character youll want to spend some time with.
