Euphoria

This is an angsty teen drama, yes, but its one made by HBO the TV powerhouse behind Game of Thrones, The Wire and Big Little Lies. Essentially, its a deftly produced US version of Skins or, perhaps, Hollyoaks Later; a world where everyone throws parties with swimming pools and red plastic cups.

Rue Bennett is a 17-year-old whose suburban upbringing gives way to self-destruction and drug addiction. Its a fantastic portrayal by Zendaya, whose credits include a Disney Channel sitcom and The Greatest Showman, so this is quite a departure. Its almost unrelentingly bleak, and yet theres something engrossing about this look at Generation Zs issues.
