Mitch McConnell, 84, has not been seen in public since June

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear claims Sen. Mitch McConnell has not responded to any of his attempts to get in touch amid ongoing concerns about his health status.

The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican was admitted to George Washington University Hospital on June 14 after allegedly suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was brought to the medical facility by emergency responders after finding him at his D.C. residence following a medical episode. McConnell has not been seen in public since his hospitalization.

It wasn't until July 12 that his office released a suspicious photograph and a statement as "proof of life" amid mounting speculation about McConnell's health. McConnell's condition remains unclear to the public, and his office has dodged questions about his return to work, leading to accusations about signature fraud via autopen.

McConnell's office has also been under public pressure to release a "proof of life" video statement after the photograph was torn apart and mocked online.

However, he provided an update on Aug. 6 about his condition after he claimed he was discharged from the hospital.

"Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home," he wrote. "Elaine and I are grateful for the many well-wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care Ive received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff."

He added, "On the advice of my doctors, Ill maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and Ill continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.

Gov. Beshear reminded Sen. McConnell that he has a duty to the people of Kentucky

Beshear has faced mounting public pressure to appoint a temporary replacement for the senator amid speculation about his health status and whereabouts. The governor has repeatedly expressed concern about McConnell, and in late July said he was frustrated over McConnell's absence to vote on key legislative initiatives.

It had been a month before anything had been put out, not even an official statement from Senator McConnell. In fact, Id gotten two calls from different agenciesnot state agenciessuggesting hes passed, Beshear said in late July.

In a recent Sunday appearance on CBS News' Face the Nation, Beshear said he has made multiple attempts to contact McConnell with no success.

I have heard absolutely nothing back from Mitch McConnell, he said. "And while I do hope that he is getting betterIve known him my entire life, I wish him no harm, I actually wish him good healthhis boss is the people of Kentucky. And this is why the Senate, the Republican-controlled Senate, feels so broken. They feel like theyre not accountable to anyone. All he needs to do is call into this show for two minutes, or Fox News for two minutes, or do a video for two minutes to the people hes supposed to serve. But you know what? He absolutely refuses to do it.
