Teen woman among three arrested after pensioner, 81, found dead in burnt-out campervan on Christmas Day

A TEENAGE woman and two others have been arrested after a pensioner was found dead in a burnt-out caravan on Christmas Day.

Godfrey Bradford, 81, was found at the dead scene when police arrived at March Lane in Chudleigh just before 11am on December 25, 2025.

A 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A woman in her 50s was also arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging/assisting the commission of murder.

All three suspects are from South Devon and have been released on bail, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Emergency services raced to the scene following concerns for a man.

The fire had been extinguished by the time they arrived and officers found the body of the retired farm contractor in the fire-ravaged campervan.

DI Chris Lithgow from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: Our officers have carried out three arrests as part of our enquiries into the death of Godfrey Bradford near Chudleigh on Christmas Day last year.

The arrests follow months of investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Bradfords death.

We would like to remind the public not to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation.

A spokesperson for the force added: “Officers were called at 10.50am on 25 December 2025 to a rural property north of Chudleigh following concerns for a man.

“Emergency services attended the scene where a fire was believed to have occurred.

“A man was located in the property and was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“He was later identified as 81-year-old local man Godfrey Bradford.”
