The Metro reports that Leao made it clear that he wanted a Premier League move earlier this summer.
He said: “I need a new challenge. I already won two trophies in Italy and have been there for a while.”
Leao played in all five of Portugal’s matches at the 2026 World Cup before being eliminated in the Round of 16, scoring once against Uzbekistan.
He scored nine goals in 29 appearances last season, with AC Milan finishing fifth and failing to qualify for the Champions League.

New ex-Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been tasked to restoring the Italian giants to glory, perhaps without Leao.
Chelsea will also hope for a much better campaign following a tenth-place finish under three separate managers.
They are now under the stewardship of Xabi Alonso.
