The Chases Shaun Wallace reveals why hell QUIT show if ITV sign any more quizzers

THE Chase’s Shaun Wallace has revealed he would consider quitting the ITV show if bosses recruit any more quizzers.

The Dark Destroyer, 66, has been a chaser since 2009, alongside fellow original star Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett.

They were joined by ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegerty in 2010 and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha in 2011, before Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan entered the fold in 2015 and most recently Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis became a chaser in 2020, having triumphed as a contestant.

Shaun thinks the quizzing line-up is at capacity and wouldn’t welcome more brainy additions.

“I can’t see any other chasers being appointed,” he told The Sun in an exclusive interview. “And if it got too crowded, I’d probably leave.

“There was three of us for two years. Then there was four of us for five. And, you know, that’s when they decided that we needed another female chaser, which I think was good.

“And they actually had a competition to see who the best one [was]. Jenny came out on top by a mile.”

When asked if he had a limit for the number of chasers on the books that he’d accept, he continued: “I think if they had one more, then I’d consider it [quitting]. Because it would look ridiculous to have too many chasers.”

Shaun acknowledged that even viewers took a while to adapt to the swelling ranks.

“They were sceptical when Jenny first came on,” he said, speaking on behalf ofGambling.com, the home ofUK casino sites. “They were sceptical when Darragh first came on. Because they don’t like change.”

There have been guests chasers over the years, most notably Australian brainiac Ivan Schultz who filled in for Anne during season five when she tested positive for covid.

The quiz champion, dubbed ‘The Supernerd’, had plenty of experience having been part of the show in Oz and New Zealand.

YouTuber Vikkstar123 had a one-off appearance on a special episode featuring his content creator crew The Sidemen as did comedian Joe Pasquale last year when he filled in for Darragh on an episode of Beat The Chasers.

When it comes to pay, equality is the name of the game with no pay scale hierarchy or win bonuses.

Shaun told us: “No, we all get the same rate.”
