The Greenville County Coroners Office confirmed Panettiere was found unresponsive at the South Carolina home where she had been temporarily staying on Sunday.

Emergency crews raced to the property following a 911 call reporting a cardiac arrest at around 1.51pm.

The Coroners Office said first responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and located a female in cardiac arrest.

Medics desperately tried to save the actress using advanced cardiac life support measures, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2.32pm.

An autopsy has since been completed, but her cause and manner of death remain pending while officials carry out further tests.

According to a Page Six report, the Coroners Office said: No signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death.

It added: This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.

The finding comes after 911 dispatch audio reportedly described Panettiere as having suffered an apparent overdose.

It comes as

Narcan, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, was reportedly discovered on a mattress at the property, according to TMZ.

It remains unclear whether it had been administered to the actress.

Panettiere had reportedly travelled from Los Angeles to South Carolina with her on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson the day before her death.

It is not known who made the emergency call.

Her devastated dad Skip Panettiere announced the stars death on Sunday, saying: It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.

She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen. We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.

Panettiere had spoken candidly about her past battles with alcohol and opioid addiction, as well as postpartum depression.

She previously revealed she was offered so-called happy pills before red carpet appearances when she was just 15.

They were to make me peppy during interviews, she told People in 2022.

I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction.

Her struggles later saw her relinquish custody of her daughter Kaya, now 11, to the girls father, retired boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, in 2018.

Speaking about the heartbreaking decision earlier this year, Panettiere said: It wasnt a decision I made lightly, nor was it a decision I even wanted to make.

I was going through a really challenging time in my life I knew I needed to be able to put her first so that I could get the help I needed and be the mom she needed me to be.

The actress had also endured the devastating loss of her younger brother Jansen, who died aged 28 from an undiagnosed heart condition in February 2023.

She later said of his death: He was my only sibling, and it was my job to protect him.

When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul.

Panettiere, who would have turned 37 on Friday, was best known for starring as cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes and Juliette Barnes in Nashville.

Her other major credits included Remember the Titans and Scream 4.

It comes as Klitschko, 50, broke his silence on his former fiances death in an emotional tribute.

The Ukrainian former heavyweight champion said: Our family is going through a time of profound shock and grief.

The announcement of Haydens tragic death saddens me deeply. She left this world far too soon.

Panettiere and Klitschko first met in 2009 and had an on-off relationship spanning nine years, becoming engaged in 2013 before ultimately splitting without marrying.

Klitschko vowed to ensure their daughter remembers her mum, saying:

Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life and the mother of our daughter, Kaya.

To our daughter Kaya, I will always speak of her mother with respect and make sure she remembers the person she was.
