Summary
On upstream Fedora kernels and the current linux-surface kernels, the Surface Studio 1's accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and ambient light sensor are unrecognized. /sys/bus/iio/ does not exist at all when attempting to see if any of the sensors are available.
Device
- Surface Studio 1 - Intel Skylake i7, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 980M
- Kernels - 6.19.8.3-surface and 7.1.9-200.fc44
- Distribution: Fedora 44
- Output from diagnostics.sh full
Steps taken / diagnosis
- Attempt to run monitor-sensor, which remains at Waiting for iio-sensor-proxy to appear.
- ls /sys/bus/iio errors with cannot access '/sys/bus/iio/': No such file or directory.
Expected behaviors
The various sensors should be available in /sys/bus/iio or another location and monitor-sensor should print real-time sensor data to the terminal.
Workarounds
Launch on-screen keyboards for text input as necessary. Manually toggle tablet modes when using a desktop environment that supports such a mode.
